Reflecting on the tumultuous year that was 2020, I find myself flipping through my calendar with mixed emotions. Just like many of you, I had meticulously planned out every month from January to December. My ambitions spanned a wide spectrum – from speaking engagements and trade shows to personal and professional coaching sessions, vacations in uncharted territories, essential networking events, joyous celebrations like birthdays and graduations, voyages to unexplored destinations, vital networking events, and the long-anticipated pinnacle of a wedding. Little did I fathom that a global pandemic would shatter these grand designs, and worse still, that I would be bidding a heartbreaking farewell to my beloved mother, orchestrating a funeral. Instead of celebrating life and spending time with her, I found myself navigating a path I had never expected.
In these moments, we are starkly reminded of life’s fragility, its unpredictability. The blueprints we so meticulously craft must often yield to the unknown paths that await us. These past few months have been a humbling lesson in relinquishing our scripted lives to embrace the unwritten narrative that beckons. Perhaps you, like me, perceive the recent months as a regression, a backslide. However, I propose that you are actually right on the trajectory that life intended. Amidst the turbulence, remember that God’s plan does not err; each step we traverse is a vital part of the journey to the ‘other side’.
Gratitude wells up within me for the myriad precious gifts that transcend materiality. I am grateful for life itself, for the bonds of friendship and family, for insights that illuminate my existence, and for eyes that discern reality as it is. Each morning I awaken, gratitude fills my heart for the melody of music, the solace of prayer, the wisdom of scripture, and the health and resilience that sustains me. Love, patience, compassion, laughter, kindness – these virtues temper the ache of grief and loss, cocooning me in an inner peace.
Diverse streams of income, from conventional businesses to network marketing, have been my financial pillars. In the embrace of digital platforms like Zoom and Skype, I’ve continued my engagements, coaching sessions, and team huddles virtually. Even as the pandemic surged, I witnessed the growth of my team and clients – a testament to resilience and adaptability.
Amidst the challenge, we stand amidst a sea of opportunity, as articulated by Albert Einstein. These opportunities might not knock; in such cases, forge your own door. Now is not the time for despairing over limitations or lamenting the ‘should-haves’. Rather, it’s an opportunity to be present and seize each fleeting moment. Commence where you stand, wield what you possess, and undertake what you can. In the midst of adversity, remember that God’s presence is steadfast.
When entangled in the clutches of a rut, extricating oneself is a formidable endeavor. Yet, the arduous nature does not render it impossible. If despair and hopelessness shadow your days, recognize your worth, for you are not abandoned. You are cherished, you are sufficient, you are deserving. Persevere.
Draw from your reservoir of strength; affirm your intent to persist, to surmount. You harbor the vigor and determination to envision brighter tomorrows, to actualize your aspirations. Do not allow setbacks to define you. No matter how intense the darkness, remember, it’s ephemeral. Handle each challenge incrementally, not as an overwhelming deluge, but as singular threads to unravel.
Keep in mind the profound potency of the human spirit – an indomitable force that dismantles barriers. God’s grace is boundless, an eternal wellspring. Forge ahead with fortitude, wear a smile as your armor, for life’s ultimate reward is divinely bestowed.
Amidst this turbulent journey, prioritize gratitude and service. Amidst the relentless march of time, seize your potential, step by step. As the year’s final chapter looms, recognize that 2020, despite its trials, remains salvageable. Expand your dreams beyond confines, for possibility transcends perception.
Through trials unimagined, let compassion and love shape your essence. For in the end, remember: God is Love.
Warmly,
Maxandra Desrosiers
